Our children’s children

Sir Ken Robinson - Global Education Forum

I had an interesting discussion with my brother on the phone today. I bemoaned the fact that I often feel as if I am shouting in a vacuum. I feel that people such as Sir Ken Robinson that you see in the video above are asking us to understand that education has never been so important to our future on this planet and yet we have many in Government  here in my home country of the U.K. and elsewhere in the world who are shouting about going back to some golden age that we see mentioned in the video.

In the end I feel that we need to consider just one thing…we have only one chance to get it right… and we are answerable to our children and also their children and their children’s children. They will not look back on us kindly for creating a world (which we maybe already have) that is threatened by climate change and environmental disaster but which also has political and economic collapse leaving their world limited and perhaps a reflection of the harsh world that Anthony Burgess wrote about in his dark novel “A Clockwork Orange”.

I feel that the video argues strongly that we need to rethink now and allow our children to create, collaborate and work out solutions for their children and their children’s children… who of course are our descendents and carry our hopes and genes into the future.

At the end of our conversation my brother said that I should carry on screaming with my small voice in the noise of a crowded internet… because it is important. I hope, if you believe the same as I do… you will also keep screaming… because it matters for all our futures.
